Batuu Adventure Buddies from Droid Depot at Galaxy's Edge, Building Your Own Interactive Ewok Explained

Preston builds his own droid at Disneyland

Droid Depot, the build your own droid workshop tucked into Black Spire Outpost, is getting a companion product this week. Batuu Adventure Buddies interactive Ewoks launch August 13 at Disneyland, featuring motorized facial expressions, expressive eyes, and their own library of signature sounds.

How Droid Depot Works

For anyone who hasn't done the full build experience, Droid Depot lets guests assemble, detail, and activate a custom droid from four available model lines.

The BB Series includes a dome, connection plate, body sphere, and motivator. The R Series is built from a dome, body, center leg, and side legs. The C Series follows a similar format with a dome, body, center wheel, and side legs. The A LT Series rounds out the options with a dome, body, and side legs.

We took my son Preston (pictured above) to the Droid Depot for his 11th birthday. He built an R Series droid that still sit on his shelf today.

Oliver salvaging part for his custom BB Series Droid

Preston’s younger brother, Oliver, chose a BB Series droid on his birthday trip to the Droid Depot. As their dad, I may have been just as excited to watch them salvage the parts and put the units together as they were. The process is refined and feels authentic with fake power tools and “boot-up” process.

Once assembled, droids magically come to life and interact with specific locations around Black Spire Outpost. It's less a standalone toy and more a prop that responds to its environment, which is a big part of the appeal for repeat visitors who want a different experience than a typical souvenir purchase.

Where to Find It

Droid Depot operates at both Disneyland Resort's Star Wars, Galaxy's Edge and Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios location of Galaxy's Edge. One planning note worth flagging for guests visiting Disney World specifically. Reservations are no longer required at Disneyland, but Disney World's Hollywood Studios location still requires one, so don't plan on walking up without checking availability first.

Pricing and the New Ewoks

No specific pricing was listed in the source article for either the droid builds or the new Batuu Adventure Buddies Ewoks, though expect the droid builds to track with past Droid Depot pricing if you've done this before. Since this story first came out we now know the Ewok Batuu Adventure Buddy is priced at $99.99. And no, you won’t get a Magic Key discount. Ugh.

Still, perhaps my youngest son, Maxwell, might enjoy an Ewok for his next birthday trip. Then we’d have a good variety of Droid Depot wares in our home and something unique for each of them that won’t cause any fights or squabbles whatsoever. Ha!

The Ewoks launch alongside the existing droid building experience rather than replacing it, giving guests a lower effort option if a full build isn't in the day's plans.

Additionally, Grogu and a Huttlet, will debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios along with the Ewok at a later date.

Tips for First Time Droid Builders

Guests doing their first droid build should plan for the experience to take longer than a typical quick service souvenir purchase, since the process involves picking individual parts off a conveyor style parts wall before assembly. We easily spent more than an hour picking out the parts, contemplating the choices, fitting it all together, and securing the last screws.

Families building more than one droid at a time should expect the process to take even longer, so building it into a Galaxy's Edge visit early in the day, rather than squeezing it in between other attractions, tends to work better.

As of this publication reservations are not required for Droid Depot at Disneyland Park. If you’re looking to build a droid while visiting Walt Disney World you should double check current availability for Droid Depot at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Alright, that’s all for now. See ya next time.

A Disneyland native, Wesley is a Producer, Director, and Photographer born and raised in Southern California. Like many others of his generation some of his first memories include exploring Walt Disney’s original Magic Kingdom as a child with his parents, sibling, and grandparents. As a young adult, Wesley attended the Disney College Program at Walt Disney World where he gained experience and appreciation for the Florida Project and Theme Park operations. Wesley graduated college with a degree in Mass Communication and freelances in live sports and events for local professional sports teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers since 2013. He joined the Media Events team at Disneyland for the opening of Rise of the Resistance. Somewhere along the way he found a love for Disney Cruise Line, has been a guest on several DCL focused podcasts, and looks forward to sailing on the Maiden Voyage of the Disney Believe with his wife and three children. Until then, Wesley is working on building a custom Disney Parks Version Tracker with the aspiration to help guests more effectively plan their visits to Disney Parks world wide.
