Disney Believe: A First Look at Disney Cruise Line's Next New Ship
Disney Cruise Line just gave us our first real look at its next ship, and the name alone tells you a lot about where this one is headed. Meet the Disney Believe, the newest member of the fleet, set to set sail in late 2027. If the details released so far are any indication, this ship is shaping up to be one of the most character forward vessels Disney has ever built, and I'm already rearranging my mental vacation calendar.
What We Know About the Disney Believe So Far
The Disney Believe is currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard, the same German shipyard that has built essentially every Disney Cruise Line ship to date, including recent fleet additions like the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny. That lineage matters because it puts the Believe in company with some of the most talked about ships in the fleet's history, and it suggests Disney is leaning into the same scale and ambition that made those ships such a hit with families.

The Grand Hall Goes Full Moana
The biggest reveal so far is the ship's Grand Hall, which is getting a full Moana treatment. Picture a bronze statue of Moana herself, alongside Pua the pig and Heihei the rooster, anchoring the space, all wrapped in Polynesian inspired finishes throughout the hall. For a franchise that's become one of Disney's most beloved modern classics, giving Moana this kind of prime real estate on a brand new ship feels like a pretty clear signal about how big the studio thinks that story still is with families.
If you've sailed on a Disney ship before, you know the Grand Hall basically sets the tone for the entire vacation. It's where you first step aboard, where character greetings often happen, and where a lot of that classic "we're really on a Disney cruise" moment hits. Leaning into Moana here instead of a more traditional princess or classic Mickey theme is a fun departure, and it tells me Disney wants this ship to feel distinct from its recent siblings.

Toy Story and Tinker Bell Take Over the Exterior
The character theming doesn't stop inside. On the stern, Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story are depicted writing out the ship's name in playful, block style lettering, like something drawn in yellow crayon (which Woody is holding in his hand), which is a genuinely charming touch and a nice bit of visual whimsy for a cruise ship exterior. Over on the bow, hand painted filigree work brings Tinker Bell from Peter Pan into the mix, surrounded by silhouettes of other beloved characters.
Between Moana in the Grand Hall, Toy Story on the stern, and Tinker Bell on the bow, the Disney Believe is clearly being built as a showcase of Disney storytelling across generations, not a single theme locked to one franchise. That's one of my favorite things Disney Cruise Line does well, blending classic and modern IP so there's something for every kid, and every adult, on board to recognize.

Entertainment Inspired by Some Heavy Hitters
Onboard entertainment is expected to draw from Encanto, Frozen, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Moana, and The Little Mermaid, based on what's been shared so far. That's a lineup that spans nearly a century of Disney animation, from Snow White's 1937 debut all the way through Encanto's 2021 release, and it suggests the Believe's stage shows will lean into big, sweeping musical numbers rather than a single storyline.
Claire Weiss, Portfolio Executive Creative Director, put it well when she said the ship "celebrates belief in magic, family, the power of nature, and belief in yourself," adding that the stories told onboard will all tie back to "the core Disney notion of believing in something fantastical."
That framing explains the ship's name a lot better than a marketing tagline usually does, and it gives a hint at how cohesive the passenger experience is meant to feel from the Grand Hall all the way through the theater.

What This Means for Future Disney Cruisers
We're still a good ways out from the Disney Believe's late 2027 debut, and plenty of details are still under wraps, staterooms, dining venues, specific show names, and homeport chief among them. But between the shipyard pedigree, the Moana forward Grand Hall, and an entertainment lineup pulling from some of Disney's biggest musical properties, this already looks like a ship worth watching closely.
I'd start keeping an eye on Disney Cruise Line's official announcements over the next several months, since ships in this class tend to sell out fast once itineraries and pricing go live.
Alright, that’s all for now. See ya next time.
