Savi’s Workshop Got a Lightsaber Upgrade. Here’s What to Know Before You Build.

Savi’s Workshop has a new set of reasons to look beyond the hilt.

Disney’s October 5 update introduced revised Protection and Defense pieces with white-and-gold High Republic styling, plus enhanced chassis and blades across the hilt themes. The effects include thermal cutting, spinning and deflection, with smoother activation and updated sound. Special cracked Kyber crystals can unlock an additional color-change effect.

Those changes are available at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. This is a look at an earlier October update, not an announcement that arrived today. Disney’s dated announcement separates the new features from older entries on the same page.

The planning question is whether the experience belongs in your trip—and which details you need to check before committing.

The current price comparison

Detail Disneyland Walt Disney World
Listed build price $249.99 plus tax $274.99 plus tax
Payment On arrival At booking
Accompanying guests Builder plus two guests Builder plus one guest

At least one person in the party must be 14 or older. Separate park admission is required; Disneyland also requires a park reservation. Both locations list a carrying case, and custom builds are nonrefundable and ineligible for discounts. Prices and offerings can change.

Check the current Disneyland details or Disney World details before booking. Advance reservations are recommended; this article does not establish availability for a particular date.

What the upgrade changes—and what it does not establish

For a first-time builder, the new hardware gives you another feature set to consider alongside the appearance of the finished lightsaber. For someone who already owns one, it creates a different question: are the effects enough to make another build worthwhile?

That answer is personal. A collector may care most about the new visual design. Someone planning a single visit may care more about the experience itself, the cost and how it fits into the day.

Our recommendation is to separate those decisions. Decide whether you want the workshop experience before treating a particular hilt as a must-have purchase. Then consider which design you actually want to bring home.

An announcement can describe effects. It cannot tell you how much you will value them. This is not a hands-on review, and we are not claiming that the new hardware solves a reliability problem or makes older lightsabers obsolete.

Disneyland has a separate complimentary option

Disneyland’s guest page also lists the limited-time Youngling Saber Building Expo, a Loth-Cat Crew experience. It is a capacity-limited walk-up demonstration, with no take-home lightsaber included; a purchase is optional. The page lists 10 a.m.–2 p.m. for that offering and 2–9 p.m. for the reservable paid build.

The same page’s general hours display differs, so confirm the day’s operation directly. Its original launch date is not established here. Do not assume this separate Disneyland offering is available at Disney World.

For a family, the distinction is worth understanding before setting expectations. Participating in a demonstration and leaving with a purchased souvenir are different outcomes. Talk through which one matters to your group before you arrive.

Make the reservation part of the plan

A good reservation choice starts with the rest of your day. Think about where you expect to be beforehand, who is participating and what you want to do afterward.

If several people want to build, agree on the budget before checking dates. If someone is accompanying a builder, make sure the guest allowance fits the group rather than assuming the same rules apply on both coasts.

Read the cancellation terms on the booking page before you commit. We are linking the current terms instead of reducing that decision to a remembered rule from a previous trip.

It is also worth deciding what you will do with the finished item for the remainder of the day and on the journey home. Ask about current storage or transport options before relying on one, particularly if your travel plans make carrying a large souvenir inconvenient.

Build because you want the experience

The new features are useful information. They are not a reason to stretch a budget you were comfortable with yesterday.

If Savi’s is a trip priority, start with the current guest page, compare the complete cost and check the right date. If you are undecided, give yourself space to decide without turning an upgrade announcement into an obligation.

The best addition to a park day is something your group actually wants to do. Even a lightsaber should pass that test.
