Beginner’s Guide to Every Lightning Lane Pass, Price, & Ride at Walt Disney World

Does buying Lightning Lane mean you get to skip every line at Walt Disney World? It's the most common first-timer assumption, and the real answer depends on which of the three passes you buy. This guide helps you understand what each Lightning lanes service includes, what Multi Pass, Single Pass and Premier Pass cost at every park, which rides are included, when booking opens and how to buy.

Already know how it works? Our Lightning Lane strategy guide covers which rides are worth your picks at each park.

The Three Types of Lightning Lane Passes

Lightning Lane is Disney's paid "line skipping" service. You book a one-hour arrival window, come back during it, and use a separate, shorter entrance. It's an add-on to your park ticket, bought per person, per day, in the My Disney Experience app. Every ride still has a standby line.

At its essence, Lightning Lane is a way for Disney to create false scarcity within it's parks then charging you to overcome artificially restrained supply. But I digress.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass

You select an attraction you want to ride and choose a time. At your selected time, return to the attraction, bypass the traditional, standby queue, wait maybe a few minutes, then board the ride, show, or attraction.

If you're staying at a Disney Resort hotel you can pre-book up to three rides and arrival windows at one park 7 days before your visit.

Once you tap in to your first Lightning Lane attraction, you can book another, and you can keep doing that all day while times are available. It covers most rides and shows, plus includes some photo perks. Lightning Lane Multi Pass does not include access to each park's biggest headliner attraction (see Single Pass)

Lightning Lane Single Pass

Lightning Lane Single Pass is a paid service for a reservation to ride one, single attraction that Multi Pass doesn't include. These headliner attractions include TRON Lightcycle / Run or Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. You can buy up to two per day, one ride at a time, each with a one-hour arrival window. Single Pass doesn't include photo perks.

Lightning Lane Premier Pass

Lightning Lane Premier Pass covers all the attractions without cumbersome and pesky return times. With Premier Pass you'll get entry to every Lightning Lane ride in one park, Single Pass rides included.

The biggest perk to Premier Pass is there are no arrival windows! You just walk up and ride whenever you want. Premier Pass also includes photo perks, is sold in limited quantities, and sells out on busy dates.

Does Lightning Lane Let You Skip Every Line?

Now that you know what each pass covers, the next step is deciding which rides deserve your three picks, and our strategy guide breaks that down with average time saved for every Multi Pass ride. If you're booking a Walt Disney World trip you can find current Walt Disney World deals in the OFFER.log.

So, back to the question at the top. The answer is no. No Lightning Lane pass lets you skip every line. Multi Pass skips the line at most rides and shows, but every ride needs its own booked arrival window, and it never includes the park's biggest headliners.

Single Pass gets you one ride on one of those headliners, two per day at most. Premier Pass comes closest, with one Lightning Lane entry to every ride in a single park, but it's still one entry per ride, it sells out on busy dates and it costs up to $449 at Magic Kingdom. Whichever you buy, plan on some standby lines too, and know that the Lightning Lane itself is a shorter line, not an empty one.
