Rock 'n' Roller Coaster's Holiday Overlay Features Animatronic Scooter

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets is getting a seasonal at Disney's Hollywood Studios from November 4 through January 6, and it's not just a new set list slapped onto the same ride experience. The Electric Mayhem is getting a genuine upgrade.

Meet The First-Ever Audio-Animatronics Scooter

The headline addition this year is Scooter, built as the first-ever Audio-Animatronics figure of the character. Disney used motion-capture technology to translate the actual Muppet's movements and expressions into the figure, which is a different approach than how a lot of classic Disney AAs were built, and it shows in how precisely the figure is supposed to replicate Scooter's real gestures rather than a generalized approximation.

New Songs, New Pre-Show, Same Big Coaster Energy

The set list swaps in four holiday numbers this year, "Holiday Road" featuring Kermit and Fozzie Bear, "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" featuring Jennifer Hudson, "Silver Bells" featuring Cyndi Lauper, and one more collaboration Disney hasn't fully named yet. That's a real mix of classic holiday standards and genuinely starry guest vocalists, which has become something of a signature for this ride's seasonal music swaps.

The pre-show is getting new content too, with backstage rehearsal scenes showing The Electric Mayhem prepping for their holiday show. Other Muppet characters show up to help out along the way, and if you know anything about how Muppets projects tend to go, you already know those helpful cameos are built for comedic mishaps rather than smooth teamwork. New dialogue and narrative beats run through both the pre-show and the queue itself, so even guests who've done this ride a dozen times should notice new details on a fresh visit.

The Little Touches

Disney's also adding holiday music to the courtyard outside the attraction's guitar-shaped marquee entrance, so the seasonal atmosphere starts before you even get in line. It's a small thing, but it's the kind of detail that makes the whole area feel considered rather than just the ride itself getting the holiday treatment while everything around it stays the same.

What It Means For Your Hollywood Studios Holiday Visit

If Rock 'n' Roller Coaster is already on your must-ride list, there's no real reason to change your plans, it's still the same aggressive launch coaster underneath the holiday dressing. But if you've ridden the holiday version before and weren't blown away, the new Scooter figure and refreshed pre-show are a legitimate reason to give it another shot this season rather than writing it off as "seen that already."

Plan to ride it once during the day and once if you're at Disney Jollywood Nights, since the holiday overlay runs the full November 4 through January 6 window, well beyond just the hard-ticket party dates.

Alright, that’s all for now. See ya next time.
